Essentials of AV Technology Course

This 3-day course explains the science and technology that sits behind basic audio, visual and audio-visual systems integration. It is relevant to AV staff working in broadcast, fixed installations, staging and live events. This course builds the student's understanding of the fundamentals used daily in the audio-visual industry. It is also great prep for individuals wanting to earn the SACIA Cert AV Associate designation or the AVIXA AV technologist certificate. It also acts as a bridge for people wanting to attend the AV Certification Prep course or the TLE Certification Prep course.

The course covers the following topics:

  • Theory of light and sound, including an understanding of wavelength, frequency and amplitude
  • Venue acoustics, including the impact of reflection, refraction and absorption
  • AV troubleshooting and essential equipment maintenance
  • Video theory and the fundamentals of optics, codecs and compression systems
  • Fundamentals of lighting for video conferencing
  • Fundamentals of power and the relationship between voltage, current and resistance
  • Display systems, including both projected images and flat panel displays
  • AV maths, including basic formulae often used in the audio-visual sector.
  • Signal management, including various cables and connectors commonly used in the audio-visual industry
  • Operating audio-visual technology, including fault-finding, documentation and maintenance
  • RF allocation and the use of wireless devices common to the audio-visual industry
  • Customer service and the importance of teamwork in delivering a technically competent production
  • Network fundamentals and basic IT infrastructure

Course Cost R16 500-00 + VAT per person

  

This course is based on a curriculum developed by AVIXA (previously known as InfoComm International). It is validated to provide 24 CPD credits that can be used to maintain a SACIA-validated professional designation.
