Event sustainability management systems

This document specifies requirements for an event sustainability management system for any type of event or event-related activity, and provides guidance on conforming to those requirements. This document is applicable to any organization that wishes to: a) establish, implement, maintain and improve an event sustainability management system; b) ensure that it is in conformity with its stated sustainable development policy; c) achieve the intended result(s) of its event sustainability management system; d) demonstrate voluntary conformity with this document by: — first party (self-determination and self-declaration); — second party (confirmation of conformance by parties having an interest in the organization, such as clients, or by other persons on their behalf); — an independent third party (e.g. a certification body).

Sustainable Events Standard

This standard identifies environmental, quality, regulatory and social performance criteria that MICE (meetings, incentives, conference and exhibition) professionals provide to the event sector. This standard should be met in order for any event to be considered as ‘sustainable" or ‘green’. This standard can be used by meeting professionals to guide their sustainability performance by using the criteria as key performance benchmarks to reduce the environmental, social, cultural and economic loads resulting from their activities.

Sustainable Catering and Food and Beverage Operations 

Minimum standards for providing and evaluating food and beverage services and products for sustainable meetings, exhibitions, trade-shows, conferences or other events. This standard applies - but is not limited to, the provision of catering services and products.

Sustainable Transport Services and Operations 

Minimum standards for evaluating and providing sustainable transport services for meetings, events, trade shows, and conferences (events). This standard applies - but is not limited to, the transportation of participants to/from conference related events; transporting participants between conference facilities and hotels; and transportation of materials.

Minimum standards for providing and evaluating the sustainability performance of meetings, exhibitions, trade-shows, conferences or other events. This standard applies - but is not limited to, the organisation, management and monitoring of events.

Sustainable Audio, Visual & Production Services

Minimum standards for evaluating and providing sustainable Audio, Visual and Production Services and products for meetings, events, trade shows, and conferences (events). This standard applies - but is not limited to, the provision of services, equipment, technology or other staging, décor, scenic elements, audio, video, lighting and technical production services

Sustainable Event Communications and Marketing Services

Minimum standards for providing and evaluating communications and marketing activities for sustainable meetings, exhibitions, trade-shows, conferences or other events. This standard applies - but is not limited to, the provision of promotional, marketing, awareness and other communication material and activities associated with an event.

Sustainable Venue and Facility Selection

Minimum standards for evaluating and providing sustainable venues and facilities for meetings, events, trade shows, and conferences (events). This standard applies - but is not limited to, the selection of sustainable venues and facilities when planning a sustainable event or activity.
