  Fundamentals of Event Management

  This 10-week, online course covers the fundamental elements of event management, including the creation of corporate events such as conferences and conventions. It involves studying the brand, identifying its target audience, developing the event concept, and coordinating the technical aspects before launching. 

  We’ll also explore the size, scope, and economic opportunities of working as a PCO and event organiser in Africa. 

  Lectures run once a week from 7 - 9 pm, starting on Tuesday, 16 June and continuing until Tuesday,18 August.

  The course is presented by leading academics, as well as industry practitioners who hold the Certified Event Professional designation. During the course, we will cover the various elements of event management, including event administration, operations, marketing, design and risk management, with a particular emphasis on the legislation and bylaws that impact event management in South Africa.

  On conclusion of the course, all participants will write the qualifying exam for a SAQA-registered professional designation in event management.

  SACIA’s Event Safety Summit brings together professionals from the entertainment, sports, and corporate event industries to discuss all aspects of safety, security, and health at live events. The Summit features presentations, panels, and workshops that offer practical insights, bring professionals together, and inspire a renewed commitment to prioritising safety across the events and entertainment industry.

  The objective of the Event Safety Summit is to bring together every function required to deliver safe events, so we can share knowledge and learn from one another. This is a conference for:

  • Local authorities and EMS service providers (medical, fire, etc)
  • Service providers, including access control, waste and sanitation
  • SAPS, Metro Police, Environmental Health and Disaster Management Officers
  • Ticketing companies
  • Safety and security service providers
  • Venue operators
  • Event organisers, covering business, sport and entertainment events
  • Academics and educators working in tourism, hospitality and event management

  At the 2026 conference, there will be many opportunities for informal networking and socialising, establishing connections, and meeting potential new clients across the two days

  Enjoy a day in the sun with friends and colleagues

  Join us on 13 October 2025 for the annual SACIA Golf Day and prize-giving dinner. It's a four-ball tournament followed by a prize-giving dinner.

  There's a shotgun start at 12h00 with a floating trophy awarded to the winning team.

  We'll also have some "fun" prizes for those of us who are not chasing the silverware:

  • Closest to the pin (on one of the par-3 holes)
  • Hole in one (we could have more than one winner – I think we had two “holes in one” during our 2023 tournament)
  • Team with the most putts
  • Team with the worst score
  • Team with the most lost balls
  • Mishap of the day (Tom Crosswell managed to fall into a water hazard at our 2023 event and in 2024, an unnamed golfer took out a hadeda with his tee shot on the first hole)
